The forum at Autolanka is one section of the site I
enjoy the most. A day does not go past when I don’t log in and keep up to date
with the “goings on” in the forum. The forum helps us to see what the trends are
and what the more popular topics are.
Whilst we try to promote motoring in general, it must be admitted that the more
dominating discussions are by the “young and the restless” on the drags that
take place into the wee hours of Saturday night in the streets of Colombo.
The enthusiasm towards the sport is very encouraging and nothing would give me
more pleasure than to see this enthusiasm eventually move over to becoming a
mainstream sport in the country.
It also must be said that considering the cost of things in our land these days
the guys involved are spending a considerable amount of money to keep their
steeds well oiled and ready to rock n roll. Whether this spending money comes
from their regular day jobs or from the deep pockets of their keepers is not of
any importance. What is important, as I said earlier, is the enthusiasm and
passion towards it all.
Whilst the likes of Scoobies and Evos are the ultimate (ultimate within the
Lankan context) for the young guns, not many can afford these pocket machines
from the Land of the Rising Sun.
So whilst the guys with the big bucks can afford such wheels, my salute goes to
those shoe string budget guys who try everything within their means to try and
squeeze power out of their regular day use cars. Whether it is a 1300cc Beetle
or a naturally aspirated 1500cc mummy’s Civic, the passion behind it all is what
counts. So to these guys, I say well done and keep the passion alive.
If it is loud vinyl all you can afford and even if a STi beats you on the
1/4mile straight by over a humongous time margin, NEVER GIVE UP THE PASSION!!
So, as some form of encouragement to those less fortunate brothers of the drag
fraternity I have listed below a few less fabulous cars from here (SA that is)
which their owners over the years (spending their hard earned sweat money)
turned into STi and EVO eaters. Sky-lines, well may some of them too.
Mind you, these are all home built in the back yards of the owners.
So read the stats, and get some encouragement my young friends :)
